Ah yes, the Volkswagen GTI. The founder of the hot hatch scene and the car that has set the benchmark standard for compact performance for years. Combining German build quality in a subtle hatchback configuration, a turbocharged engine, and stout handling, the GTI is among the top 10 lists for car journalists and will be for years to come.
Today, we'll take a look at the sixth generation of the GTI, coined the MK6. This generation ranges from 2010 - 2014 and also includes the standard Golf platform along with the wildly sought-after Golf R.

Build Breakdown
- Wheels: Konig Ampliform 18x8.5 +43
- Tires: Nitto Neo Gen 225/40
- Suspension: Coilovers
Let's start with the functional setup. For this, we wanted to show a car that wouldn't require a ton of body modification to achieve the desired fitment. This setup would also allow you to hit the back roads and occasional track days with confidence. Our first GTI, a 2013 4-door is running the 18x8.5 +43 Konig Ampliform wrapped in a set of 225/40 Nitto Neo Gen tires and riding on a set of coilovers. This is the perfect subtle, functional build that will make the perfect fun daily driver out of your GTI.
Konig Ampliform Review
The Konig Ampliform is one of the most popular wheels for the Golf platform. It's not uncommon to see this wheel on the newer MK7 models as well. This is because of its clean, aggressive design that puts a focus on performance. With a split 6-spoke design, Flow Formed construction and coming in either a gray or bronze finish, the Konig Ampliform fits right at home on the MK6 GTI.
Nitto Neo Gen Review
We absolutely love this tire! The Nitto Neo Gen is a performance all-season tire which means it will give you better dry performance than your standard all-season tire but won't have the hydroplaning issues that come with some performance summer tires. Pair that with the respected Nitto name and you have yourself a solid all-around tire.
Pros:
- Great wet and dry performance
- Great Looks
- Full Manufacturer Warranty
Nitto Neo Gen Specs:
Price: Starting at $516
Speed Index: W
Tire Type: Performance All-Season
Warranty: Full Manufacturer Warranty

- Suspension: AirLift Performance Air Suspension
Next we have the show build. If you don't care as much about ride quality and practicality and you'd rather break necks everywhere you go, then this build is right up your alley. We have a 2013 two-door GTI rocking a set of red Rotiform BLQ wheels wrapped in Achilles ATR Sport 2 tires and riding on none other than AirLift Performance air suspension.
Rotiform BLQ Review
The Rotiform BLQ is one of the most popular wheels the company currently offers. This wild design and bright finish make just about any car stand out and look ready for a show. Rotiform is arguably the biggest aftermarket wheel name in the Volkswagen scene thanks to their great quality, price, and wide variety of finish options.

Achilles ATR Sport 2 Review
The Achilles ATR Sport 2 has made a name for itself lately thanks to its great performance for such a low cost. This will give you a little bit better performance than a standard summer tire, keep price low, and last a decent amount of time. This tire also tends to stretch really well making it perfect for a show build.
AirLift Air Suspension Review
Last but not least, we bring in AirLift Performance air suspension. AirLift is arguably the biggest name in the air suspension industry and is known for their high quality, reliable products. Air suspension allows you to remotely raise and lower your car at will and has become a staple in show builds around the world. If you want to achieve the lowest ride height and with a ton of adjustability, there's no better option.
