Is Ceramic Coating Your Wheels Worth It?
March 15, 2021
There's nothing like finally throwing on your new set of clean wheels, snappin' a few pics for the car gram (we know you have one, don't lie), and cruising around town to show them off. Only to realize that they're dirty AF when you get back.
Brake dust, dirt, grease, and maybe even cow sh*t if you live out in the country...and it all ends up on your new wheels. Now you're like, "It's fine. Everything's fine. I'll just clean them up quickly".
A week later, the same thing happens and a week after that, it happens again.
We've all been through this; well, maybe not the cow sh*t part if you don't live out in the country, but you get the point. The daily abuse and exposure to these different elements can wreak havoc on your precious investment.
So, the big question is, how do you prevent this? How can you protect your wheels from the daily abuse they experience? Here's your answer: Ceramic coating. Let me explain why...

What is Ceramic Coating?
Before we dive into just why we believe ceramic coating is worth it, let's go through what ceramic coating actually is.
A professional ceramic coating job is much like getting a professional mechanic to install your go-fast parts instead of trying to jerry-rig them together.
Yes, you have to pay someone to do it for you, but the results are far more reliable and correct than if you tried to do it yourself if you have little knowledge or experience with doing it.

There are a few options of ceramic coating products at the store, but when it comes to a professional job that is done right the first way, it's generally better to have a professional do it, aka Fitment Industries specialists.
In a nutshell, Ceramic coating is a layer of polymer that is applied to the surface of your wheels (or your car) that essentially fills in and imperfections or grooves in your paint.
This creates a seamless and smooth barrier that helps prevent things like corrosion from salt and discoloration or pealing or paint from UV rays and oxidation.
How Long Does Ceramic Coating Last?
A professional ceramic coat can last around 3 years if you take care of your car. This means continuing to clean them somewhat regularly and generally being nice to your wheels.
To note: a ceramic coat does not prevent scratches or chips.

What Surfaces and Finishes Work For Ceramic Coating?
Ceramic coating can be applied to all types of wheels and wheel finishes. Matte, satin-textured, polished, glossy, machine finish, or powder-coated, painted all can be ceramic coated.
For wheels that have a matte finish, a ceramic coating won't make them glossy when applied correctly. A ceramic coat will only make them look really clean and detailed.
How is Ceramic Coating Applied?
Ceramic coating starts by deep cleaning your wheels so they're absolutely spotless. No dirt, debris, grease, or grime in sight. This is best to do when your wheels are new because they haven't been exposed to any of those elements yet.
The second step is applying the liquid polymer to the surface of your wheels using a special pad. The polymer creates a bond with the paint/finish of your wheels that doesn't wash away, similar to wax in that regard.
Benefits of Ceramic Coating
The benefits of the ceramic coating really come down to the appearance and shine of your wheels and the ease of cleaning them.
Now, ceramic coating is not a substitute for actually cleaning your wheels, but it makes the process 1000% easier. You know this all too well if you have wheels with a lot of spokes or tighter spokes.

Compared to wheels that don't have a ceramic coat, cleaning your wheels takes much more effort and more products involved than wheels with a ceramic coat.
Another benefit of ceramic coating is that your wheels won't get dirty as often.
It's inevitable that your wheels will get dirty at some point, we're not going to sugar coat it, but with a ceramic coat, dirt and other debris doesn't stick as well on the surface of your wheels because of the smooth surface it creates.
The biggest benefit of all, a ceramic coat truly brings out your wheel's best features.
The shine and smooth texture with a ceramic coat are amazing. It will make your wheels look brand new for years to come. It makes the finish of your wheels pop all while offering protection against things both in and out of our control like UV Rays and Oxidation, for example.
Is Ceramic Coating Worth it? No BS.
You made it this far! If you haven't already determined for yourself if ceramic coating is worth it for your next set of wheels, it is definitely something you should consider, especially if you run your wheels all year round.
If your car is more of a show car, a ceramic coat is going to keep your wheels looking super shiny and make them pop against the other cars.
If your car is track-focused, brake dust, grease, and grime from racing are going to be much easier to clean at the end of the day with a ceramic coat.
If you run your wheels all year round, a ceramic coat creates a barrier that protects against salt corrosion as well. This is huge if you live somewhere that has a real winter.
