Why The Car Scene Is So Special
April 28, 2021
One of the best ways I can describe the car community/car culture is...home. It's an escape from reality and our cars are, in many ways, an extension of ourselves and our passions. Many of us started getting into cars at a young age; whether it was playing Forza and modifying our dream cars, handing our dad tools in the garage, or maybe even going to circle track races and/or the drag strip. Some of us started tinkering around with cars when we finally got our licenses, as I did; either way, cars are a huge part of our lives and our car friends are more like family. It's a feeling that only true enthusiasts will understand.
We're getting a little sentimental already...
So, what does all of this really mean? Here's our thoughts on what makes this car scene so special.
What Makes The Car Scene So Special?
Diverse Community Of Gearheads
In 2020 alone, there were approximately 1.4 billion cars on the road. Currently, there are about 160 car brands to choose from worldwide and countless models, trim levels, and special edition cars that roam the streets daily. All of this means that everyone has different tastes, build styles, preferences, and passions when it comes to the big hunks of metal we cruise around in. Some of us may be hardcore show enthusiasts who like the stance setup, while others enjoy hitting the track on the weekends with more functional modifications.
It's this type of diversity that makes the car community exciting and inviting. Anyone can be a car enthusiast because it doesn't matter where your passions lie within the automotive world.
The car community is made up of hundreds of different types of enthusiasts and levels of knowledge. Thanks to online forums and Facebook pages, we're able to easily connect with other enthusiasts around the world and share our passions while learning a thing or two.
I mean, It's not all rainbows and sunshine, literally and figuratively, and there's always going to be enthusiasts with an ego, but the amount of support and love that the car community spreads outweighs the hate by a long shot.
It's also really inspiring to see the different sections, interests, and expertise across all the automotive platforms out there. You have the track rats, the avid autocrossers, the stance scene, the anything-with-a-V8 crew, the drag racing crowd, the JDM Bois, the donk community, and so many more.
Car Friends = Family
Think about how many of your friends you met at a car meet, at the track, through an online Facebook page or forum, or some other car-related event. Now think about how close you are with those people.
It's the lifelong relationships, the friends that you consider more like family, and the instant connection we all have with other car people that make this community so special.
I can't tell you how many times I've cruised past people and we both wave and smile as if we knew each other. That instant connection is so powerful.
It's a feeling that only enthusiasts will truly understand and relate to.
Those people have your back. They are around when life gets tough. They cruise with you on the weekends. They help you with car projects (or just throw tools across the garage with you). They help you grow as an enthusiast and as a person.
It's More Than Just A Car
I'm sure we've all been asked the questions "Why do you spend so much money on your car?" or "Cars are the worst investment. Why even bother?". Yup. Ouch.
Some people just won't understand. But if you know, you know. It's not just "point A to point B" for car enthusiasts. It's not just a car.
It's an extension of ourselves and our passions. It's our release and escape from the chaos of life. It's a lifestyle. It's the thrill and adrenaline of pushing your car to its limits. It's, ironically, the peaceful feeling we get from mashing the throttle and hearing beautiful exhaust notes. It's the fun conversations while standing around cars in the parking lot all night.
It's pure joy.
Yes, the wheels, tires, suspension, and go-fast parts may make our bank accounts sad sometimes. And yes, all the car projects may result in some flying tools occasionally, but what may be just a method of transportation to some, is much more than that to us. And the car community understands that.
We may not all share the same tastes in build style, but I'd like to think that we can all find some common ground and appreciation of enthusiasts building their cars the way they want.
The Drive To Learn More
We all started somewhere. Whether your dad taught you how to hand him tools and hold the flashlight everywhere but the area he wanted you to point it, or you found your passion for cars on your own, we all started from somewhere. One of the coolest parts of this community is the constant support and drive to learn more. We're all about that here at Fitment Industries.
We find that pushing ourselves and others to learn more about cars and the car community is a huge part of being an enthusiast.
How many of you spend hours looking at the next car you want to buy, what wheels you want to throw on next, what's the best tire to stretch or race with, or about the mechanics and design of combustion engines; I know I'm guilty.
The community has a crazy number of resources that allow people to quickly become knowledgeable about one topic or another. Most people are willing to share their experiences and knowledge too. All you have to do is ask.
You're One Of Us
