Hyundai Genesis Coupe Fitment Guide

June 25, 2021

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there’s no denying that these cars look badass with the right mods and fitment setup.

The Genesis Coupe’s thicc body style and RWD has made its way into every segment of the car industry—from motorsports to the show scene alike—making them versatile and fun to drive, despite having less than ideal power figures for some.

Naturally, these cars run staggered setups, but since its design also favors some sideways driving every now and then, coilovers are popular for track applications as well. Beware that no matter the suspension you choose, most Genesis Coupe’s have rolled or pulled fenders to help dial in the perfect fitment.

This Genesis Coupe Wheel Fitment Guide will cover setups for daily drivers (and maybe some track days), a more serious track setup, and a stance setup.

Quick History of The Genesis Coupe

The Genesis Coupe was first released in 2010 to the USDM (market) but made its initial appearance in the KDM (market) during 2008.

This platform was derived from the base Genesis sedan with a lil added Hyundai sporty flair.

Hyundai released this sporty RWD coupe as a direct competitor to the Mustang, 370Z, the GT86, and even the Camaro.

There were, and still are, some criticisms of the Genesis coupe, but the power is decent, the suspension is fairly stiff, and it looks good with a few minor modifications.

2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE 2.0T

The first generation Genesis Coupe denoted by the chassis code “BK1” spans the years 2008 to 2013 (worldwide). In 2013, the Genesis coupe got a facelift and the new chassis code was “BK2”.

The biggest changes that the 2.0L turbo Genesis coupe undertook were a new twin-scroll turbocharger and a larger intercooler along with some noticeable cosmetic upgrades.

The 3.8L V6 had quite a few upgraded internals. Hyundai also made some minor interior upgrades across both the 2.0L turbo and 3.8L.

Additionally, the Genesis coupe did have some involvement in the motorsport community, most notably with Formula Drift, Time Attack events, and a few other road racing events throughout the US.

Genesis Coupe Trim Levels

There are quite a few trim levels and engine options for the Genesis Coupe, but Hyundai condensed some of their trim models after 2010 and again in 2013.

1st gen trim levels of the Genesis Coupe with the 2.0L turbo inline 4-cylinder include the base model / Premium, R-Spec, and Track, and made roughly 210 HP and 223 lb-ft of torque

The 1st gen Genesis was also offered with a more responsive 3.8L N/A V6 engine for the base model, R-Spec, Grand Touring, and Track trim levels.

The 3.8L delivers about 306 HP and 266 lb-ft of torque.

For the BK2 Genesis coupe, Hyundai offered the  Premium (base model), R Spec, and Ultimate.

The R Spec is the enthusiast-oriented version with an LSD, stiffer, sport suspension, big Brembo brakes, a lil spoiler, and standard 19-inch wheels.

Hyundai again offered the 2.0L turbo which made about 274 HP and 275 lb-ft of torque this time around, while the BK2 3.8L V6 made 348 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque

Genesis Coupe Daily Driving Wheel Fitment

Daily driving a Genesis coupe is fun. In fact, the Genesis Coupe is perfect for an exciting daily driving experience. Here's why.

You get to play around with RWD, there’s a 6-speed manual transmission option, power is decent for daily driving, it’s comfortable with heaps of creature-comforts, and, well, it’s a coupe so it instantly makes the drive feel even more sporty.

Before we get into the wheel and tire specs, most daily driving Genesis coupes choose to ride on lowering springs or coilovers.

These suspension options offer better handling and the lowered look that suits this body style incredibly well.

Due to the wide stance of the Genesis coupe, these cars often run staggered setups despite not having a standard staggered wheel and tire setup from the factory.

While square setups are easy and usually the go-to for daily drivers, filling the rear wheel well is easily achievable with a wider wheel and tire.

2013 HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE 3.8 TRACK

So, starting off with a solid staggered setup, we have a 18x9.5 +35mm with a 225/25 tire in the front with a 18x10.5 +30mm 245/45 tire in the back

CHECK OUT 18X9.5 WHEELS

2014 HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE 2.0T

A 225 tire on a 9.5” wide wheel is going to give you a slightly stretched look, but it’s nothing like your typical stance tire stretch.

You could size up to 235 or 245 if you prefer the look better, but beware because you may run into some rubbing issues depending on how lowered you are.

The sidewall profile is going to be a little taller in the rear with a 45 sidewall compared to a 25 sidewall in the front. This is going to fill that rear wheel well much better than a 25 sidewall would.

This setup will give you no rubbing or scrubbing issues and rolling the fenders is not necessary which is a plus.

Genesis Coupe Track/Drifting Wheel Fitment

So, you autocross or drift your Genesis coupe a lil bit. That’s sick.

The fitment specs for this application are under the assumption that you’re lowered on adjustable coilovers for better handling AND you're racing an R Spec since it's the best track-oriented Genesis coupe.

An autocross setup, even on a naturally wide-bodied coupe like the Genesis coupe, is going to run a smaller wheel—in this case, an 18-inch wheel.

Remember that you’ll need big brake calibrated wheels to clear your Brembos too.

A good autocross setup is a balance between getting enough grip for the application without lugging around too much unsprung weight with a big wheel and tire.

A solid track-oriented setup for an R Spec Genesis Coupe is 18x9.5 +22mm with 255/35 tires in the front and a 18x10.5 +22mm with 275/35 tires in the rear

This wide wheel and tire combo will provide some extra grip in the rear, where you’ll really need it.

Genesis Coupe Stance Boi Wheel Fitment

Despite the Genesis coupe being a fun daily and weekend track car, this platform is incredibly popular in the show scene. Just throw some Air Lift suspension on, flashy wheels, all the carbon fiber pieces you can find, and you’re good to go.

Again, these specs are based on the assumption that you’re going to run air suspension.

If you want to stick with a 18s all around, a 18x9.5 +10mm with 245/40 tires in the front and 18x10.5 +10mm with 285/35 tires in the rear are solid choices.

However, these specific specs are based on having either rolled fenders and/or a widebody kit.

This setup looks super badass and fills that rear wheel well perfectly.

Plus, a 285/35 in the rear is the ideal size for a 10.5 wide wheel so you're going to get a perfect fitment there.

If you are looking to run a 19-inch wheel, most people will run a 19x9.5 +22mm with either a 225/35 or a 245/35 tire in the front and 19x10.5 (or 11) +22mm with 275/35 in the rear.

If you like a little bit of a stretched look, which a lot of stance builds run, a 255/35 is common on a 10.5-inch wide wheel

2013 HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE 3.8 R-SPEC

Both of these fitments will require some fender modifications as well—widebody kit and/or some rolling.

Final Thoughts on The Genesis Coupe

The Genesis coupe doesn’t get enough love, but has still seen some great action on the autocross and drifting track, the stance scene, and your fun daily cruiser.

Yes, there might be better options out there for its class, but its performance resume isn’t half bad.

It's just often overlooked due to bigger and more mainstream platforms like the 86 and 370Z.
